Tragic Loss in Chisholm: Community Mourns the Death of 22-Year-Old Justin Tyme Wix in Bicycle Crash

CHISHOLM, Minn.  — A devastating tragedy has struck the small Iron Range community of Chisholm, as 22-year-old Justin Tyme Wix lost his life in a fatal crash involving a bicycle and a motor vehicle Tuesday evening. The accident occurred shortly after 7 p.m. at the intersection of Lake Street and 2nd Avenue, just outside the familiar neighborhood hub of Tom & Jerry’s Bar—a place many locals associate with comfort and camaraderie.

According to the Chisholm Police Department, emergency responders rushed to the scene after receiving a call reporting a serious collision. Upon arrival, EMTs immediately began life-saving measures on Wix, who had been riding his bicycle when the crash occurred. Despite their best efforts, Justin Wix was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle, identified only as a 42-year-old man from Chisholm, remained on the scene and fully cooperated with investigators. Authorities have stated that the driver showed no signs of impairment at the time of the incident. As of now, no charges have been filed, and the incident remains under active investigation by Chisholm Police and associated agencies.

Though the investigation is ongoing, the sudden loss of Justin Wix has already sent waves of sorrow through the community. Friends, neighbors, and loved ones describe him as a kind-hearted young man with a free spirit, someone often seen riding through town on his bicycle, offering a wave or a warm smile. His passing has left an aching void, particularly among those who knew him closely or watched him grow up in this tight-knit Minnesota town.

Born and raised in Chisholm, Wix was known for his easygoing nature and strong connection to his roots. Many recall seeing him at local events, parks, and community spaces, often lending a helping hand or striking up a conversation. Though just 22 years old, he had already become a familiar and well-liked presence throughout the area. His untimely death is a painful reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of road safety for both motorists and bicyclists.

In the aftermath of the incident, community members have begun leaving flowers and candles near the site of the crash—a growing makeshift memorial that speaks to the deep sorrow felt by all who knew him or were touched by his story. Discussions around improving cyclist safety in the city have also been reignited, as residents call for more visibility, signage, and mutual awareness on shared roadways.

As authorities continue their investigation into the circumstances of the collision, the community of Chisholm grieves not only for the loss of a young life but also for the many moments and memories that will never be made. Justin Tyme Wix will be remembered for his gentle demeanor, his zest for life, and the unmistakable presence he brought to every corner of the town he called home.

Further details regarding memorial services or a celebration of life are expected to be announced in the coming days. For now, the city of Chisholm stands together in mourning—united in heartbreak, but also in remembrance of a life that ended far too soon.
