In a heartbreaking incident early Sunday morning, 17-year-old Amya Finney lost her life after being fatally shot inside a Madison, Tennessee home. The shooter, her 20-year-old boyfriend Amare Ramey, later turned himself in to authorities and is now facing two counts of criminal homicide.
According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, the tragic event unfolded when Amya called her mother, asking to be picked up from Ramey’s home after an argument ensued between the couple. The call abruptly ended, and shortly thereafter, dispatchers received a hang-up 911 call from the same area. Responding officers arrived to find Amya in a bedroom with a gunshot wound to her abdomen. She was rushed to Skyline Medical Center but succumbed to her injuries.

Amare Ramey turned himself in at the North Precinct later that day. During questioning, he admitted to being present during the shooting and handling the firearm when it discharged, fatally wounding Amya. He also revealed that Amya was two months pregnant with his child at the time of her death.
Investigators noted that there was no documented history of domestic violence between the couple. However, Ramey had a prior criminal record, having been arrested in March 2024 on charges including aggravated burglary, carjacking, and aggravated assault. He was sentenced in June 2025 to four years of supervised probation.
Ramey is currently being held at the Davidson County Jail on a $1 million bond. The community remains in shock over the senseless loss of a young life and the unborn child she carried.
This tragic event serves as a stark reminder of the potential dangers present in domestic situations and the devastating consequences that can arise from a moment of conflict. As the legal proceedings unfold, the community continues to mourn the loss of Amya Finney and the unborn child she was expecting.
