TROY, MI – ACCIDENTAL SHOOTING OF 9-YEAR-OLD CHILD UNDER INVESTIGATION

The Troy Police Department is currently conducting an active and thorough investigation into a tragic accidental shooting that occurred earlier today, leaving a young child in critical condition.

At approximately 4:12 p.m., officers were dispatched to a residence located on Crooks Road following an urgent request for medical assistance involving a child with a severe injury. Upon arrival, first responders found a 9-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was quickly stabilized at the scene and transported by emergency medical personnel to a local hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.

The child’s condition remains critical, and medical personnel are continuing to provide intensive care.

During the initial investigation, a firearm was recovered inside the home. At this time, investigators are working diligently to understand how the child was able to access the weapon and to reconstruct the events that led up to the shooting. The child’s mother was present at the residence when the incident occurred. Authorities have not released any further details regarding other occupants or specific circumstances, pending the outcome of the ongoing investigation.

“This is a heartbreaking situation,” said a representative from the Troy Police Department. “Our thoughts are with the child, his family, and everyone affected by this incident. We are committed to conducting a full and thorough investigation to determine exactly what happened and to prevent tragedies like this from happening in the future.”

At present, no charges have been filed, and no arrests have been made. Investigators are being methodical and cautious in gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to ensure an accurate and just resolution.

The Troy Police Department emphasizes the importance of safe firearm storage, particularly in homes with children. Keeping firearms locked, unloaded, and out of reach is essential to preventing these types of preventable tragedies.

As this remains an active and sensitive investigation, no further details will be released at this time. The public and media are urged to respect the privacy of the family during this incredibly difficult time.

Additional updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
