UPDATE: Missing Man Found Deceased After Vehicle Swept Off Roadway

Posted on July 10, 2025 by Usainsightreport

The Alamance County Sheriff’s Office has released a heartbreaking update following the search for a missing man whose vehicle was swept off the road during heavy flooding in the southeastern part of the county. The victim has been identified as James Michael Parcell, a 71-year-old white male from Haw River, North Carolina.

On Sunday evening, July 6, 2025, at approximately 11:36 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the area of Jones Drive and Calloway Drive in response to a report of a missing person. According to the caller, he and his friend had been traveling separately in the same area when he suddenly lost sight of the other vehicle. Concerned, he contacted authorities to report his friend missing.

Upon arrival, deputies began an immediate search and soon discovered the victim’s vehicle off the roadway and submerged under rapidly flowing water, approximately 50 to 100 yards from the road. Recognizing the danger and urgency of the situation, deputies quickly requested assistance from a water rescue team.

Despite swift and courageous efforts by rescue personnel, the situation turned tragic. The water rescue team located the victim deceased inside the vehicle and safely recovered the body from the submerged car.

The Alamance County Sheriff’s Office initially withheld his name out of respect for the family until all next-of-kin notifications were completed.

This incident serves as a sobering reminder of the dangers that can arise quickly during severe weather and flash flooding. Even seemingly familiar roads can become treacherous when water levels rise, and drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution in low-lying or flood-prone areas.

Sheriff’s officials expressed their condolences to the Parcell family and thanked the first responders who acted swiftly and with professionalism during such a challenging and emotional situation.

“Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Mr. Parcell during this extremely difficult time,” said an official from the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office. “We are grateful for the dedication of our deputies and rescue personnel who responded with urgency and compassion.”

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, but no foul play is suspected at this time. The area experienced significant rainfall and water accumulation over the weekend, which likely contributed to hazardous driving conditions.

The community is encouraged to remain vigilant during future weather events and to remember the lifesaving message: “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.”
