At approximately [time of call, if known], emergency services received a report of an active shooter at the Walgreens location. Port Orange Police Department (POPD) officers responded swiftly to the scene. Upon arrival in the store’s parking lot, officers quickly identified the suspect, later confirmed as 60-year-old Daniel Lee Asseff, sitting alone in a vehicle.
As the officers approached the suspect’s vehicle with caution, a single gunshot was heard from inside. The officers, responding with urgency and concern for both public safety and the welfare of the individual, immediately moved to secure the area and inspect the vehicle.
Inside the vehicle, officers discovered Daniel Lee Asseff in the driver’s seat with a single gunshot wound to the head.
