Victim Identified in West Toledo Shooting That Left One Dead, Another Critically Injured

Posted on May 28, 2025 by Usainsightreport

TOLEDO, Ohio — The community of west Toledo is reeling after a deadly shooting Tuesday evening that claimed one life and left another person fighting for theirs in the hospital. The incident occurred in the 3800 block of Haverhill Drive, near a gas station, just after 6 p.m., according to the Toledo Police Department (TPD).

Authorities have now identified the deceased as 40-year-old Norman Allen. The Lucas County Coroner’s Office confirmed his identity Wednesday afternoon and released preliminary autopsy findings. Allen was struck by two bullets — one of which caused fatal internal injuries.

A Deadly Encounter

When police arrived at the scene, they found Allen lying in the grass near the gas station. Emergency responders attempted to treat his injuries on site before transporting him to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his wounds. The coroner’s report indicates that Allen sustained a gunshot wound to the back, which resulted in damage to both the aorta and liver — critical injuries that ultimately led to his death. He also had a graze wound on his left shoulder.

At the time of the incident, police believed Allen to be the only victim. However, as the night progressed, a second individual arrived at a local hospital via a private vehicle. That person, whose name and age have not yet been released, was also suffering from gunshot wounds and is currently listed in critical condition. Their identity remains undisclosed as investigators work to piece together the timeline and circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Investigation Underway

Toledo police have launched a full-scale homicide investigation into the case. Details about what led up to the shooting are still sparse, and authorities have not yet named any suspects or made arrests. Police have also not stated whether they believe the two victims knew each other or if the shooting was a random act of violence.

The 3800 block of Haverhill Drive, typically a quiet residential and commercial area, was cordoned off for several hours as detectives processed the scene, interviewed witnesses, and collected forensic evidence. Surveillance footage from nearby businesses is being reviewed, and investigators are urging anyone with information to come forward.

“This is an active and ongoing investigation,” a spokesperson for TPD stated Wednesday. “We are following every lead and ask that the public remain patient as we work to uncover the facts in this tragic event.”

A Community Shaken

The loss of Norman Allen has shaken residents in the surrounding neighborhood. Though little is publicly known about Allen’s background, those close to him describe him as a father and a friendly presence in the community. Friends and neighbors have begun to leave flowers and candles near the scene in an impromptu memorial.

“I’ve known Norman for years,” said a nearby resident who asked to remain anonymous. “He didn’t deserve this. He was just at the wrong place at the wrong time. This violence has to stop.
